Core of Knowledge – Laser Safety Officer

This more advanced course is intended for experienced laser / IPL operators who are responsible for supervision of all light-based devices in the establishment.

Unlike the Core of Knowledge – Laser User foundation course, the entire module is divided into four units with strengthened Assessment Criteria and Assessment Evidence.

 Prerequisites

A thorough understanding of the content of the Laser User Core of Knowledge training video and workbooks is required to answer the more challenging multiple-choice assessments at the end of each section. Additional downloadable workbook material is also provided to assist you with independent study and critical assessment of laser safety requirements in your establishment.

You will be required to:

  • complete revision of Laser Physics & Safety ‘Core of Knowledge’ with more challenging questions
  • submit a developed set of Local Rules for the specific device(s) used in your establishment,
  • complete a choice of three independent written tasks from a list of possible tasks and a fourth randomly selected written assignment by
    Online Laser Training.

Both the Laser User course and the Core of Knowledge – Laser Laser Safety Officer course use the same student resource course material and presentation but the multiple-choice questions for the Laser Safety Officer assessment are longer and more challenging.

Output
  • You will submit a developed set of Local Rules for the specific device(s) used in your establishment,
  • and complete a choice of three independent written tasks from a list of possible tasks and a randomly selected written Assignment by
    Online Laser Training.

Quality Assured

Online Laser Training (OLT) laser/IPL theory courses are quality assured, customised programmes of study that are bespoke to OLT and not available on the UK regulated framework. However, our programmes have been mapped to the relevant National Occupational Standards (NOS) and aligned to the regulated framework meaning that this Laser Protection Supervisor / LSO course is equivalent in academic terms to a Level 5 qualification.

This online course is worth 60 CPD learning credits which is equivalent to a notional 60 hrs of learning. Typically, the course is expected to take 3 – 4 weeks to complete depending on the practical experience of the learner and time allocated.

Legal Requirement

It is a legal obligation in some UK jurisdictions (Wales & N.I.) that a ‘Core of Knowledge’ course from a recognised or approved trainer is provided as a requirement of registration and/or licensing.

Aligned to Regulated framework

Online Laser Training (OLT) laser/IPL theory courses are quality assured customised programmes of study that are bespoke to OLT and not available on the UK regulated framework. However, our programmes have been mapped to the relevant National Occupational Standards (NOS) and aligned to the regulated framework. This means our ‘Core of Knowledge’ Laser User course is equivalent in academic terms to a Level 4 qualification.

Typically, the course takes 2 – 5 days to complete, with a four week maximum duration to finish the course.

Language competence

All people enrolled in courses provided by Online Laser Training must be proficient in spoken and written English, comprehension and expression, with particular emphasis on reading ability. These courses include technical instructions, advice and recommendations. The ability to understand and follow these will be crucial to a successful completion of the courses and fitness to practice autonomously as a laser therapist and be responsible for safe, person-centred care.

If English is not a first language, then there is an expectation that learners have at absolute minimum, passes in reading ability from the language programmes listed below, or equivalent, in order to successfully undertake these courses:
• IELTS Life Skills Speaking and Listening (At B1 level)
• IELTS General Training (Minimum band score 5.5)
